Tri Targeting Brain Injury

“Tri” Very Hard & You Get…..An Amazing Challenge!

Tri Targeting Brain Injury Challenge By Former CSGT Marty Wilson With Former GB Paratriathlete Sarah Pearson

Former CSgt Marty Wilson had a successful civilian career but decided to join the army as a Private.  As a sniper and Paratrooper he was trained to remain out of sight; be ‘unseen’. He was once given a T-Shirt by Australian snipers that said ‘Unseen – Out of Sight Out of Mind’. This has a different meaning after his injuries.

“At Headley Court I had a ham and cheese toastie for about 4 months because they were the only four words that were comfortable.”

“Going for a coffee I can rehearse and rehearse but if someone asks me a question, that’s me gone”

He was shot in the head in 2011 whilst on tour in Afghanistan and sustained severe brain injuries resulting in him needing to relearn how to talk, read, and process information. A life altering event. To raise awareness and funds for four amazing charities, some of which who have supported him in his rehabilitation, Marty and Sarah (one of our amazing and inspirational patients!) will be doing a rather unique challenge……

On 8th October 2015 Sarah and Marty will set off at HMS Excellent, Portsmouth with the swim. They will then cycle to High Wycombe RAF HQ and then do 3 days of running to HQ Land, Andover. WOW!

The charities they are supporting are;

  • The Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund
  • The Disabilities Trust
  • Support Our Para’s
  • Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund

Each of these charities supports people who have experienced brain injury. Marty in particular has received support through Support our Paras and via Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust (they are part of the Disabilities Trust).

If Marty’s story has inspired you please DONATE TODAY in buckets at…

Marty & Sarah hope to complete the challenge in its entirety together but we will need to support each other and ensure safety at all times. In particular making sure Marty is not starting to get indications of potential seizure.

All at QuayPhysio Fitness & Wellbeing want to applaud Marty & Sarah in their amazing challenge and wish them best of luck. What an inspiration.
